1970 Ford Escrot MK1 – Portugal 1110 2-Door

 

 

For sale is one 1970 MK1 Escort 2-door made in Portugal. It is in very good general condition and runs well on its original 1100 cc engine.

 

Structurally it is very solid, with minimal repairs including replacement front wings at some point in its life. It is a Portuguese built Left-Hand Drive car.  I bought this 2.5 years ago in Portugal, then drove it home via Spain and France. It is UK registered and was MOT tested at the time, but this has now lapsed. Has both sets of original keys and handbook. All panels appear to be in excellent condition, and is very good and original in the boot / floor/ engine bay areas.

 

The interior is also very tidy. The paintwork is okay, but the respray it had at some point was pretty average.

 

All in all however it is a very good, solid and desirable example of a much sought after vehicle.

This 1973 Escort Mk1 Mexico Recreation benefits from a great spec. It wouldn’t take a huge amount of time or money to convert to a full blown race car or to get MSA logbooked for Rallying.

As it sits, it is a very straight and solid fast road car that really is a hoot to drive and extremely quick for a classic Escort. The car was recommissioned in 2014 from a rot free shell and was taken back to Bare metal before painting in the Purple you see today.

Up for sale is one 1971 Ford Escort MK1 Rally Sport made in Mexico.  For all you aficionados, the Mexican-Made RS is a very desirable usable classic car, loads of fun to drive and very cool.  Probably not one for the purists due to modifications (see below specifications)

 

Car owned for 7 years and in that time continued to improve and maintain it whilst having a lot of fun with it, however due to family commitments it has done less than 4000 miles in that time and as I’m not getting the use from it the time has come to sell. It can do ¼ mile in under 16 sec.

Things to consider:

  • The shell is not genuine type 49 I was told that it was replaced by previous owner in 1980s following rallying incident
  • Following carb rebuild and electronic ign modifications it would benefit from professional tunning and set up as not running as sweetly as it should
  • There are rust bubbles on bonnet top, front slam panel  and rear arches and paintwork requires some attention
  • Floor has been welded and patched but all been done well and is solid, has been undersealed
  • Door solenoids sticking and doesn’t always unlock at first (lack of use I believe)
  • Front wings are fibreglass and one has crack on top

MK1 cortina – Finnish import purchased 3 years ago.   Good condition for age inside and out.   Starts and stops and drives well – very reliable.

 

Current MOT.  Some cosmetic bubbles & blisters and rust spots.

 

Interior would benefit from new door cards and headlining clean. 

 

Overall nice ongoing project, I don’t have enough time to finish as other projects on the go.

1973 Ford Escort Mk1 – RHD Import

Up for sale:  One 1973 Ford Escort Mk1 import from sunny South Africa.

 

Its in very good order for its age and starts runs and drives. All import duty and tax has been paid and NOVA registration done. Will need motd and uk registered but we can help with this process. Overall a very good strong shell with nice paint. With a little tlc in the interior department it could make a very very nice car.

 

Body – Mk1 Escort 2 door shell. Very original with its original inner wings, strut tops, sills, arches floors. Looks to have only had a repair in the spare wheel well and drivers side outer footwell. The drivers side footwell has not been done the best but if someone pays the asking price we are happy to repair this properly with a replacement panel. Panel gaps are good and the paint is lovely with only a few very minor marks on it. Overall a very good strong shell which is one of the nicest mk1 shells ive seen for a while. RS decals fitted.

 

Mechanics

1300 crossflow engine which starts and runs well. Standard 4 speed box. Car drives well and everything feels quite tight. All suspension and brakes appear to be standard and in good order.

 

Interior

Car still has its original rubber mat rather than carpet. good door cards, headlining and rear seat. Front seats are aftermarket and have no rips or tears but dont look quite right. Standard two clock dash and standard steering wheel.

 

Wheels

13″ Minilite copies with good tyres.

Ford Escort Mexico Mk1 – Genuine AVO Car

Here is a very rare opportunity to acquire an appreciating classic in superb,original condition.


A MK1 Escort Mexico in the rarest colour of Copper Bronze.


A known AVO club car, believed to be one of only 3 currently in existence, and only manufactured in this colour for 1 year.
Original & unmolested, the car is immaculate throughout. It received a sympathetic nut & bolt restoration some 10 years ago, and has hardly been used since, living a pampered life.


During restoration, the only welding required was to the base of the rear wheel wells and a small patch on the chassis rail. This is all photographically documented. The car was restored with usability in mind as the underfloor was painted and detailed,then waxoyled. The car was polybushed throughout and drives like a nearly new vehicle.
The car has only had 5 owners from new and covered a mere 67,000 miles. The last 2 were neighbors, and she hasn’t been offered for sale for well over 20 years.


She needs to be seen to be appreciated. I have just put a new MOT on her, without advisories. The tester is checking his mattress for funds, as he fell in love with it ( He’s know his AVO Fords, and owns another Mexico…)


These cars don’t come up very often with this provenance, in this condition, let alone in copper bronze. Surely a must for the serious collector.

Details of the restoration are extensive, as are the sourcing of NOS parts, from critical components such as panels to the often overlooked trim. ‘Detail & Finish’ was absolutely key throughout the process and comments from many reflect that this has been accomplished.

 

  1. October 1973 (Registered December 1973) , 1300E, Stardust Silver (Sikkens Autowave Waterbase & Crystal Lacquer) Underside (2K Gloss) New vinyl with a fully rebuilt Britax Weathershield sunroof.
  2. 2.0 Zetec (Silvertop) 6,000 miles covered since being honed, new rings, skimmed head, new head gasket, new valve seals. Standard cams. (all painted in Satin Plastikote) Type 9 gearbox with Quaife shift, ‘BDA style’ rocker cover, New Weber 45’s with braided fuel lines, Omex ECU, New painted copper radiator, Kenlowe fan, Full 2.5” stainless exhaust inc. 4-2-1 manifold, New fully rebuilt 3.77 English diff within a powdercoated rear axle, New front and halfshaft bearings, Bilstein adjustable coilover front struts, all front suspension powdercoated throughout. Bias box fed in braided hose to new M16 calipers, Mintex pads and vented discs. New rear dampers, Powdercoated multi leafs with lowering blocks, New  polybushes throughout. New banded Lotus 5.5J wheels and chrome centrecaps with Falken 185/60/13’s.
  3. New RS ‘Scheel’ specification beta cloth interior, fully stripped, re veneered dash and cappings, new door cards and footwell panels. New black Moonstone headlining and sunroof head lining, original rear quarter panels and new rear parcelshelf.
  4. New panels required, rear quarter, inner and outer sills, front and rear panel, slam panel, turrets, full length inner wing tops, door skins, front floor pans and the addition of strut top strengthening plates.
  5. Other new items to mention would be, windscreen, drop glasses, dash switches, boot trim and hockey sticks, front indicator lenses and rear light lenses, front quarter and rear bumpers with rechromed door handles and rear light surrounds.

 

There is a comprehensive record of receipts from, and imagery of, the restoration throughout the entire process that naturally will accompany the car to the new owner.

The Escort has an MOT expiry date of 30th June 2018 and is located in Co. Durham in North East England.

It has a  long  mot and has some paperwork, invoices bills etc. Tax exempt , the car has many new parts such as brand new 13″ minilight alloy wheels with new tyres which still have paper on them , it has a fantastic  1600 cross flow engine which has been totally reconditioned  and has lots of new stuff such as new twin choke carburetor  and inlet manifold and filter , dizzy , leads etc ,it has the original 4 speed gearbox with no grinding or crunches ,  it has a full stainless exhaust which sounds fantastic ,the interior is fantastic such as the headlining which looks like new as does the seats , carpet , and dash which has the vinyl padded kind so wont crack like the hard ones ,all new window rubber seals.

One unusual extra bonus / feature on the car that it has remote central locking and alarm ,new momo steering wheel.

 

Again, this is not an authentic Mexican-made Mk1.

 

One thing I do know though is what these are worth , so genuine buyers only need apply.
